The Importance of the Special Prosecutor
The special prosecutor was extremely important for the Watergate scandal and those who were involved. It became difficult because the crimes were done so secretively and discrete. It also became difficult because so many of the offenses were nearly untraceable to a specific person. Also the constant denying of President Nixon's knowing caused an extreme delay in the process. Men like H.R Haldeman got involved with the CIA which caused an interference with the FBI's investigation which allowed them to be unreliable as well. The Special Prosecutor had an extremely hard, timely job, that had to be done so the scandal could be over, and justice would be served. They were able to find tapes of Nixon and as the prosecutors got close, John Dean, someone close to Nixon began cooperating with the prosecutors. Prosecutors later found out about Segretti's dirty tricks to the democratic party such as, sending hundreds of pizzas, or charging personal things to their bills. By the end the prosecutors found out all that there was to find and who was involved. In knowing this they gave everyone involved what was deserved and eventually forced President Richard Nixon to resign as President.
